The Legend of Apara Ekadashi
As per ancient scriptures, there once lived a noble king named Mahidhwaj. He had a younger brother who was cruel and unrighteous. Driven by jealousy and hatred, the younger brother plotted to kill Mahidhwaj. One night, he murdered the king and buried his body beneath a peepal tree.
Due to his untimely death, Mahidhwaj’s soul became restless and began to haunt the tree. His spirit caused fear and disturbance in the surrounding area.

One day, a wise sage named Rishi Dhaumya happened to pass by. Using his spiritual insight, he saw the troubled soul and decided to help. The sage preached divine knowledge to the spirit and performed the Apara Ekadashi fast during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) of the month of Jyeshtha. Through the power of his penance and devotion, the spirit was finally freed from its ghostly existence. Grateful, Mahidhwaj thanked the sage and ascended to the heavenly realms.
